Halo-Halo :: Filipino dessert

Halo-Halo (translation "halo" = mix) is one of the popular Filipino desserts. It is a colorful mixture of sweet beans, garbanzo beans, kaong (sugar palm fruit) and macapuno(coconut sport). It may include an assortment of ingredients like minatamis na saba (sweetened plantain), langka (jackfruit), sago (tapioca), nata de coco, ube (purple yam), kamote (sweet potato), sweetened corn kernels, pinipig (pounded dried rice), flan or custard, and gelatin. It is usually served with crushed ice and milk in a tall glass or a crystal bowl. Sometimes, it is topped with ice-cream. It is a very popular dessert especially during the hot summer months in the Philippines.
