My Filipino Recipes is a collection of Filipino food recipes that will guide you with the basics of pinoy cooking. These pinoy recipes were donated by Filipino folks in Los Angeles, California. Our main objective is to share these recipes not only to fellow Filipinos but to anyone interested in Filipino foods. This web site will give you some innovative ideas of Filipino cooking for family fun and free recipes to enjoy!

The Origin and Influences of Filipino Recipes

Most of these Filipino food recipes are a mixture of foreign cuisines. History tells us that traders and conquerors from the past brought with them their unique ways of preparing their own recipes in the Philippines. Pottery and porcelain artifacts excavated in central and southern parts of the Philippines prove that the Arabs, Chinese, Malaysians, Indians, and Indonesians have traded and introduced their own recipes to the Filipino people long before Ferdinand Magellan discovered the Philippines. Some of the recipes produced by these traders are chicken curry, chicken with noodles, fish stewed in coconut milk, crabs with jackfruit, fish crab with Chinese noodles, stewed ox tail and tripe with curry, squash with coconut milk, fresh vegetable spring rolls, and mix vegetables with spices. Because of the influence of these foreign cultures that began about 400 years ago and through the continuous tradition of pinoy (pinoy is the slang for Filipino people) cooking, Filipino folks came to love these recipes and became part of the Filipino food recipes. When Spain colonized the Philippines for three centuries, the Spaniards introduced recipes like chicken rice soup, stewed pork and chicken with tomato sauce, adobo, braised pork in tomato sauce, stewed fish in vinegar, milkfish stuffed with a mixture of ingredients, meatloaf, beef or goat stew with spices, stewed chicken with vegetables, stewed fish with vinegar, and stewed meat and vegetables. Pinoys love the taste of these delicious delicacies and so it became part of the Filipino food recipes. Recipes adapted from Malayan cuisine include boiled vegetables with fish sauce, stewed pork in blood, grilled meat with vinegar, stewed goat or beat entrails with bile, sautéed meat and vegetables with shrimp paste, stewed pork or fish in sour broth, and boiled fish with salt and vegetables. These are the original and native Filipino recipes.
